Similar to many other City Councils, Gloucester Leaders are promoting the environmentally friendly ideas of Recycle, Re-Pair and Re-Furbish.  Providing a selection of large, green bins for garden waste, smaller brown containers for food waste, blue canvas bags for newspapers and cardboard and strong plastic boxes for glass, tins and plastic waste.  Working together with local businesses such as  https://www.cotswoldcomputermedic.co.uk/laptop-repair-gloucester/ who provide a quality, Laptop Repair Gloucester, the Council are encouraging the Gloucester City Residents to have their computers and laptops repaired rather than to just throw them away and buy new ones.  With figures produced recently indicating that approximately 80% of computer waste ends up in landfills, the local and central Government is trying to stop this from happening. 

Roughly 62 million tonnes of e-waste was generated globally with a large portion of that being sent to local landfill sites!  Due to the hazardous materials present in computers such as lead, mercury, and cadmium, this harmful practice is extremely concerning and must stop.  Gloucester has developed an online tool called Waste Wizard that helps local residents identify if items can be recycled, reused, donated, or repaired.  Launched by the Gloucestershire Resources and Waste Partnership, a Food Waste Campaign aims to reduce food waste and encourage residents to recycle their leftovers.  Gloucester has been working very hard to reduce E-waste and is very proud that their recycling rate in the County has been steadily increasing over the last few years.
