Five things you should know about Amazon Handmade

If you are good at crafting, you may like to make money from your favourite hobby. There are many places to sell handmade crafts, and one worth considering is Amazon Handmade. If this is something that appeals to you, consider these five factors before you start.

Wait for approval

If you already have stock, you will probably be keen to get started; however, there may be a delay of anything from days to months before you are approved. You will need to make sure your product fits into an Amazon listing category; therefore, whether you are selling a macrame kit, dolls’ house furniture, or embroidered tablecloths, check which category it belongs in.

No UPC codes

If you are selling on Amazon with a pro account, you may be familiar with purchasing UPC codes for each product. You will be happy to know that these are not necessary for Amazon Handmade, so you can list as many items as you wish without cost.

Profile

Unlike most Amazon selling accounts, Amazon Handmade allows you to have an artisan profile. This can include a photograph of you and a shop banner with featured products associated with it. This is a chance to show off your best work, so make sure everything is made with quality materials by purchasing them from a reputable supplier; for example, you can visit The Wool Couture Company or another reputable stockist to buy materials of a high standard.

Create individual listings

If you are already selling elsewhere, you cannot simply import your entire catalogue; instead, you will need to create individual listings with a photograph of your product. Choose your keywords wisely to get the most benefit.

Personalised products

If you sell custom or personalised products, you can add these options to your listing. In addition to providing a text or number input or a drop-down menu, you can set individual prices. You can also include an estimate of how much time it will take for you to create and ship personalised orders.
