Netflix Party: Movies streaming simultaneously with friends

It’s called Netflix Party: it’s a free extension of Google Chrome that allows you to chat with friends and simultaneously broadcast programs and movies on the desktop.

In this season where socialization is lacking due to the Coronavirus, Netflix Party allows anyone in the invited group to pause, play, fast forward and rewind the movies, so that they are always in the same time interval.

There is also a side chat bar where you can discuss what’s going on in the movie with your friends, just like when you’re in company and sitting together on the couch.

But how can you install and use the Netflix Party extension to synchronize watching movies with family and friends? Of course, everyone who receives an invitation must have access to the Netflix streaming service.

Otherwise, they can take advantage of a free 30-day trial for new subscribers, or reactivate the account for at least a month and cancel the subscription (subsequently) at any time. So, you have to download the google extension.

Once everyone has signed up for Netflix or logged into their computer, they need to download the Netflix Party extension in four steps.

Click Get Netflix Party for free.
You will be redirected to the Google Chrome web shop page to download the extension. Therefore you have to click on Add to Chrome.
At this point a pop-up window will open. Selecting Add extension, you will see the one gray NP icon in the browser toolbar.

Once the extension has been downloaded, you can start watching shows and movies with friends. Here’s how to do it …

You need to open a new tab in the Google Chrome browser and log in to Netflix.
So all that’s left is to find a show or movie you want to watch and click on it.
At this point, the NP (Netflix Party) icon has changed from gray to red. You have to click on the icon and select Start the party and become the host. It is thus possible to select the option to be the only controller to pause and play the show, or you can let anyone take control.
You then have to copy the URL from the pop-up window and send it to everyone you want to invite to the group.
In doing so, the chat will appear on the right side of the screen. From there, you are able to see when someone joins the party.
